  As a Gegege origin story leading directly into the first chapter of the manga and intended as a celebration of Shigeru Mizuki's 100th birthday, it's hard for me to not get swallowed up by what I wish this was. I wish it grimier and less beholden to the aesthetics of the most recent anime; I wish it didn't feel required to squeeze in big supernatural shounen fights; I wish it was directed with a bit more panache to reflect Mizuki's deeply unique style.

  But what we got? Still pretty good! This riff on the Inugami Clan is surprisingly wiling--especially in its final hour--to dwell in genuinely dark subject matter that ties into the story of Kitaro in a really affecting…

  GeGeGe No Kitaro, the little boy born out of the grave who takes on Yokais, is one of the great horror fiction characters... So, it's finally time for him to get a prequel film about his hot dad and his dad's new hot friend solving a monster mystery.

  不知道是不是最近看了太多次《魔法公主》，反覆地被「活下去」這個概念給洗禮，這兩次看《鬼太郎的誕生》也有種這樣的體悟。

  《鬼太郎的誕生》的舞台設置在昭和三十一年（1956年），距離終戰不過十年，水木走過的市街風景都帶了點戰後日本電影的調調。戰後的日本百廢待舉、黑市發達，人們延續著戰時的苦難，重新建構社會的秩序與想像。

  復原兵水木在「瓦全」下回到日本，帶著在職場殺伐的氣魄，希望透過製藥龍頭龍賀一族出人頭地，並在家族宗主時貞亡故後，急忙來到哭倉村站隊。

  同時，幽靈族的唯二倖存者咯咯郎（水木愛稱）也為了找尋失蹤的愛妻來到這個神秘的村落。

  這兩個各懷目的的青年，被排外的哭倉村民視為外來者，只好結盟行動，一同尋找神秘血清M以及故人的身影。

  其實雖然標題設為《鬼太郎誕生：咯咯咯之謎》，但我暗暗覺得這部作品真正的主角是懷抱野心，卻又一再受挫的退伍軍人水木。

  在故事的開頭，水木被營造成一個為了自身利益與榮華，不惜犯險的男人。當他與咯咯郎在火車相遇，咯咯郎說他面帶死相，亡靈尾隨在後，彷彿這人有著什麼黯淡而血腥的過去（其實也沒錯啦）

  隨著故事開展，水木的記憶時不時閃現，才知道他在戰時被視為螻蟻，理當為「大義」捐軀，這才引起他的種種不甘和執念。

  也正如同日本尚未脫離戰爭，水木的創傷，也使得他把戰場帶回故土。他想被視為「人類」而被善待，也有著人類的狡詐和野心，同時也有著人類的脆弱和溫暖。

  在這個雙男主故事中，如何建立兩位主角的連結與化學效應是重要的，當咯咯郎自曝厭惡人類，對人類最親近的情感是上對下的憐憫。水木的複雜性，就成了兩位角色關係變化的催化劑，而作用在兩人之間的則是水木茂的《全員玉碎》。

  在《全員玉碎》中，水木茂描繪了基於維護「體面」而生的種種不體面，那包含階級、為了體面而死、為了士氣而死，瘧疾、鱷魚、飢荒大敵當前，各種無端而荒謬的死亡間，唯有「玉碎」被推崇，然而當巨量的死亡發生，玉碎也就更加無理，沒有任何的死亡是有意義的，唯有生、唯有憤怒是存在的。

  於是當咯咯郎即將被當眾處刑，水木本能似地挺身阻止，甚至什麼說詞都沒有想好，我真的覺得這一段非常好看。
  水木不像以往般權謀算計，他膝跳反應般地出聲也不為大義，而是源於他自身，戰場一直都在他身上，他一切舉止都肇因於戰爭記憶，他的屈辱、憤怒，謀略和恐懼，他的好和不好都跟戰時記憶有關，戰爭從未褪去，也許這就是他面露死相的原因。

  而後水木的種種反應也跟著戰後創傷而來，至於咯咯郎，則似乎帶著妻子對人類的愛（憐惜）。

  兩人的關係變化也在這樣的立場作用下產生，水木將不被視為「人類」的屈辱投射在咯咯郎，以及龍賀家的眾多受害者上。咯咯郎似乎第一次，與人為友，甚至跨越妻子抱持的憐憫，對待身邊這個人類。

  在哭倉村那些非人的陋習中，他們兩個人似乎找到了為人的價值，以及得以在戰火、怨懟纏身中，看到未來。

  私心認為第三好看（我的第一是天台打戲）的段落是咯咯郎，對著水木說，他要為了兒子誕生的未來犧牲，他沒說出口的是他也期待那是水木能存活的未來。

  貫穿整部電影，對比水木的主動，咯咯郎對於人類可以說是消極被動，他只求太太能存活，至於自己，他似乎沒有盤算太多。
  只有在最終，他才坦露了那麽一點對於未來的期待。

  再對照片頭，從他笑看水木命不久矣，到期盼水木能活下來，從不期待轉向冀望，幾個變化的時刻也很觸動我。

  那似乎也是對水木的祝福，祝福他遠離戰場，活在明媚的未來。

  我也一直在想，這個結局和片尾，透過水木拿回自主權，不願再受高權給支配，卻又失憶到底意味著什麼？

  在片尾彩蛋中，水木被從墳頭爬出的鬼太郎給嚇傻時，他一度想要了結這個不詳的存在。
  然而此刻閃現在他腦海中的不在是戰時的屈辱，和自身的投射。

  而是在櫻花樹下，故人給他的期待。

  痛苦被其他記憶填補的過程，也許就是意義吧⋯⋯

  Not quite the romantically-tinged story of two men’s budding friendship that fanart led me to believe. Still, this is continuing the thread started with the most recent GEGEGE NO KITARO anime series that asserts, “Kitaro’s dad was hot, actually.”

  The movie begins as a spooky murder mystery reminiscent of THE INUGAMI FAMILY (incest and all!) but eventually morphs more into a supernatural action film resembling the modern KITARO series with a Shonen Jump movie-style big monster boss and everything. I was captivated by the first half and felt a little let down by the conclusion, but I guess where else would it have gone?

  It’s a beautiful movie, with sharp, moody coloring and thoughtfully composed shots. Surprisingly gory and violent in parts, and even effectively creepy at times. The end credits even mimic the art style of the original “Birth of Kitaro” manga story, poignantly weaving the film’s tale into the previous origin.

  Youkai, Curses, Murder mystery, Succession wars, Capitalism, War profiteering, Family trauma, oh my!

  This...exceeded my expectations. First hearing this because of how this film contains Fujoshi bait and broke Japanese twitter with thousands and thousands of Fujoshi flooding the site with Gegero x Mizuki fanarts. Yes, this movie was powered by Fujoshi marketing and I had to see this, even with my knowledge of GeGeGe no Kitaro being limited to the 2008 anime.

  At a glance, this film seems to be designed for people who know little about Kitaro, since this is essentially the origin story of the lil' eye dude on Kitaro's head. So even if you know nothing about the franchise, you can hop on straight.

  The Birth of Kitaro Mystery of GeGeGe secara cerita buat penonton baru mungkin gak bakal bisa erat ya, apalagi mereka yg belum kenal dengan siapa itu Kitaro, Neko Musume, Madame no Oyaji, dan si troublemaker, Nezumi Otoko.

  Nah di sini bakal mundur jauh banget kebelakang, jauh sebelum Kitaro dkk ada, kita bakal lebih fokus ke seorang pria bernama Mizuki yg pergi ke sebuah desa demi menguak misteri dari serum 'M' & seorang pria bernama Gegero yg mencari istrinya.

  我絕對不會放棄的，我要親眼見證，我兒子即將誕生的未來。

  4-4.5，作為對於水木茂老師誕生100週年紀念作品之一，從「鬼太郎」這個跨越半世紀的角色其完全原創的誕生故事前傳，不僅僅是對目前已出到第六部動畫的鬼太郎一路以來的致敬與改編（開頭和結尾都是2018第六代版本的鬼太郎），也是對水木茂老師部份真實人生境遇與日本近代史一次絕佳的改編致敬。

  雖然說整體就是「被詛咒的村莊」+「暴風雪山莊殺人事件」的架構而成，但整體奠基在家族世代的罪惡與道德淪喪、日本的民俗妖怪傳說、日本人對於戰後復興、社會發展的優越與未來的恐懼，以及鬼太郎父親及水木的身世跟情誼上，還是足夠讓老套的敘事增加新風味。

  全片更有趣的地方在於塑造水木的背景、動機與價值觀，跟水木茂老師參與太平洋戰爭南邊的經歷遙相呼應。水木在二戰經歷的戰爭狂熱，以及「玉碎戰役」的年代，都和近期的《窗邊的小荳荳》一樣都凸顯了部份日本人厭惡戰爭（特別是二戰）的價值觀（很期待之後看《哥吉拉 -1.0》也能帶入類似的特質）

  東映動畫的作畫穩定發揮，不到全程高能但動作場面的分鏡設計相當驚人，像鬼太郎老爹跟長田幻治所帶領的隊員在陽台的戰鬥以及後段從地下病院到地窖最深處的血櫻花一整段都很不錯。Roll Credit旁的漫畫式後日談也很棒且有點哀傷。

  鬼太郎老爹跟水木的情誼確實寫的蠻棒的，不難想像為什麼日本從11月上映到現在可以出到6波特典，推特也很多同人圖（我也是被西批拉進去看的，好好嗑）

  我不記得發生什麼事了，但是能夠感受到一股無以名狀的悲傷

  1. 關俊彥、木內秀信、石田彰、古川登志夫等人都很棒，但種崎敦美依舊是最亮眼的（都忘記她配沙代了，最後面崩潰那邊就是無庸置疑的厲害）

  2. ED接到片尾片段真的嗚嗚嗚（尤其是還記得國小時追過晨間劇《鬼太郎之妻》所以對於鬼太郎夫妻與小孩之間的關係有所感觸）
