How to Organize Eco-Friendly Food Wraps & Mats

Disposable food wraps can be quite wasteful ecologically and also economically for your own pockets. So, I would like to suggest some eco-friendly, reusable food wraps. I, myself, do not use food wraps. I simply use food storage containers and reusable food storage bags as I share in my kitchen tour. Here are two eco-friendly food wrap options and simple ways to organize them.

Beeswax wraps can be used to wrap over top plates and bowls. They can also be used to wrap produce like an avocado or melon that has been cut. Here is a vegan option (found here):

To store these, you want to ensure that they are thoroughly cleaned and dried. Then, you simply fold them and store them along with your kitchen towels.

Another eco-friendly option is to uses silicone lids like these (found here):

To store these and make the different size options easy to sift through at a glance, simply store them vertically in a bin or basket or deep drawer.

An alternative to using foil or parchment paper for baking and roasting, you can use silicone mats like these (found here):

To store these, you can store them right along with your bakeware. You can also store these flat in a drawer. Another way to store these is to roll them up and store them in the organizing solutions suggested for food wrap boxes below.

How to Organize Food Wrap Boxes

There are a plethora of options available to organize your food wrap which can range from being free of cost to costing a pretty penny for the most aethetically-pleasing organizing solutions. Let’s start with my favorite solutions … which are free, of course!

If you have a narrow cabinet, you can probably get away with not using any organizing products. However, if that narrow cabinet is better suited for baking pans or cutting boards, you’ll need to find another solution. A shallow kitchen drawer can be the next perfect organizing solution not requiring any organizing products.

If your foil or plastic wrap box is slightly too tall for your drawer, you can remove the wrap from it’s original packaging and set it in a long drawer organizer/divider you already have on hand. You can detach the cutting mechanism from the original box and attach it to the divider!

I previously shared a couple different ways to organize foil and plastic wrap using organizing solutions you might already have on hand including magazine files and even a can dispenser rack!

How to Organizer Food Wrap in Dispensers

Your first thought at utilizing dispensers like the ones shown below might be that you simply want to make your food wrap look pretty. However, I also see this as a good transition to eco-friendly organizing solutions. Instead of purchasing prepackaged food wrap, you can purchase the refills and place them in dispensers like this one (found here):

This style of clear bins comes in almost every size possible. So, these are great options to make your pantry cohesive. This narrow option is great for saving space (found here):

This version is great for setting the boxes for your food storage bags on top and your foil, plastic wrap, and parchment paper in each easily accessible section underneath. It can also be flipped (found here):

These options can also be used in your pantry depending on your setup. You can take advantage of vertical space under the kitchen sink or within any kitchen cabinet with an organizer like this (found here):
